Description:

A systemic study of the book of beginnings in which problem areas are discussed; introductory materials dealing with liberal positions are exposed; the English text is examined; and devotional application is made.

 

Outcomes:

Assisting the students

  1. To be familiar in some depth with the text of the book of Genesis.

  2. To be introduced to the major schools of Old Testament criticism, hermeneutics and theology.

  3. To gain understanding and insight into the real historical characters that are portrayed in Genesis.

  4. To be equipped to begin a more detailed study of particular aspects of Biblical scholarship.

  5. To apply Biblical truths to their lives.

Required Text:

KJV Bible Commentary (Nelson) pp 3-75.

Assessments:

  • Read Genesis 3 times during the term (5 point deduction per read)

    • Weekly Reading (Yes/No Question every class)

      • Read English Text concurrently with classroom lectures

      • Read KJV Bible Commentary (Nelson) concurrently with classroom lectures.

      • Required Weekly Reading

    • Complete Reading #1 Mid-Term (Question on Exam)

    • Complete Reading #2 Final Exam (Question on Exam)

  • Exams: Mid-Term (1 hour) and Comprehensive Final (2 hours)

  • Essay: Approximately 4,000 words

  • Prepare for and participate in class discussions on various topics

  • Additional Reading and Reports (Three – 5 points each)
